The U.S. Embassy is deeply saddened to hear the death of our friend,

 President of the Sudanese Civil Society Initiative, human rights activist and lawyer Dr. Amin Maki Madani last week. During his long career, Madani was an ardent defender of human rights and equality. Madani gave everything he had to his country and hoped the best for all people. There are some truly brave people in this world whom you meet and he was indeed one of them. The U.S. Embassy remains committed working with people like Madani to advance human rights in Sudan and for stronger civil society. We extend our sincere condolences to his family and all who knew him.
