The Leadership of the SPLM-N Meet H.E. President Idriss Deby Itno to Discuss with him the Question of a Comprehensive and Just Peace in Sudan

A delegation form the Sudan Peoples’ Liberation Movement (SPLM-N) undertook a visit to the Chadian capital, Ndjamena, in the period 13-22 February. The delegation was comprised of the chairman of the SPLM-N, Malik Agar; Deputy Chairman, Yasir Arman and member of SPLM-N Leadership Council, Jar-Alnabi Abbas Abu-Sikeen. During the visit, the delegation met with HE President Idriss Deby Itno and a number of officials from the sister republic of Chad. During his meeting with the delegation, President Debi reiterated the following:
• That he stood with the unity of Sudan because it serves interests of Sudan in the first place, and its neighbours generally.
• That the relations of Chad and Sudan are not merely those of neighbourliness, but they are old relations that stood for shared values, culture, history, interests and kinship.
• That President Deby and the Chad Republic have expended selfless efforts in order to achieve peace in Sudan, and particularly in Darfur.
• President Deby confirmed that he is not a mediator nor has he been task to mediate. He respects current mediation efforts and that Chad is prepared to back all currently ongoing efforts to achieve peace in Sudan.
• President Deby also confirmed that he is prepared, in light of his relations with all Sudanese parties, to support all efforts that aim to achieve peace in Sudan.
The delegation thanked President Deby for his generous invitation, and before everything commended his hosting of hundreds of thousands of Sudanese refugees in Chad -without seeking personal glory or pressing an advantage- and on his unceasing preoccupation with achieving peace in Sudan. The delegation also lauded his active involvement in combating terrorism and terrorist movements, which have in the name of Islam targeted only Muslims, as is the case in Nigeria, where Boko Haram has murdered more than two-hundreds and forty thousands people whose overwhelming majority were Nigerian Muslims.
In its turn, the SPLM-N delegation presented a full account of the situation in Sudan, and the efforts that have been undertaken to arrive at a comprehensive peaceful settlement. The delegation also set out the obstacles that have blocked these efforts.
The SPLM-N Delegation also affirmed that relations between the Sudanese and the Chadian possess the attributes of a strategic asset, and that the SPLM-N considers the best option on the way forward is both countries to seriously work for integration and fostering a strategic relations with the Republic of Chad and other countries in the region, and seeking the unity of the countries of the African continent.
The delegation urged President Deby to continue his efforts in supporting ongoing peace initiatives that are aimed at achieving a comprehensive and just peace in Sudan.
It is worth noting that relations between the SPLM-N, the Republic of Chad and HE President Deby was initiated by our late great leader John Garang de Mabior. After 2011, the SPLM-N sought to bolster its connections with all countries in the region for the benefit of our people, the region’s and humanity at large.
Our Chad visit comes as a result of our deep regard for the Chadian people and the leadership of Chad, as represented by President Deby, who are hosting thousands of Sudanese refugees, and continue to support the peace efforts. We also acknowledge the strong and deep historical relations that binds him and the Chadian people to Sudan, which should deployed for the interest of the two people’s.
